Inspiration:
Patchouli is a forest understory plant. Growing under the dark canopy of the hot, humid island jungles of South East Asia. From this environment she gets her earthy, musky and mossy scent imbued with a rich green heart and a woodsy base. Patchouli is a plant that understands roots and dark places. Her leaves are soft and feel like velvet. In a quality Patchouli extraction, you can actually feel a velvet aura to the fragrance. Located between the forest floor and the canopy, Patchouli is a bridge between the worlds of light and dark. Balancing and connecting emotions, while keeping you grounded, is Patchouli’s gift.
In “Patchouli Terre” Bakhoor Incense, I wanted to explore the earthy qualities of Patchouli that makes her fragrance so grounding to the emotions. I combined Patchouli’s fragrance with other grounding scents; leathery labdanum, earthy oakmoss, musky agarwood and balsamic cedarwood, to which I added Breu Branco resin (Protium heptaphyllum). Breu Branco resin supports Patchouli’s fragrance with its, earthy and woody scent with hints of green and floral notes.
A large tree, native to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, Breu Branco grows in a very similar soil conditions to Patchouli. Breu’s resin harmonizes with Patchouli’s aromatherapeutic effects as it is grounding, balancing and calming. These qualities have made Breu the incense of choice for practitioners of the Ayahuasca ceremony. Breu’s fragrance helps set the stage for people to calmly connect to the deepest levels of their soul.
