“Queen of the Night” is a solid solifleur perfume .  A solifleur is a study and celebration of a particular flower that evokes the scent of the flower alive and radiant in the garden.  A solifeur has other botanical ingredients in its composition, but their inclusion is to exalt the flower’s scent.

The scent of a jasmine plant is strongest at night, as the drop in temperature causes the flowers to open more. Jasmine vines in full flower have an extremely rich, voluptuous floral aroma that surrounds and embraces anyone who passes.  Jasmine’s uninhibited aroma evokes lightness and joy, opening the way to physical awareness and imagination.

Ingredients: Jasmine floral wax, In-house extract of Frankincense resin, Jasmine, organic Clary Sage, organic Beeswax.

Inspiration:

Jasmine is a classic sweet, white-floral perfume ingredient.  I knew the smell of Jasmine through perfumes, before I knew her aroma as a fresh flower.  It took me a while to find Jasmine plants in Canada, but over time, I assembled a small collection of plants.  The first blossom was a cause for celebration and observation.  I realized the bud had flowered as soon as I entered the room.  I visited her and inhaled her fragrant breath many times during the day, breathing in deeply, receiving her gifts of joy and relaxation.   Jasmine’s living breath is light and airy in texture even if strong in intensity, like a white feather.  A fragrance that is sheer and intense, floral, fresh and clean.  Another blossom appeared quickly after the first and then the plant was filled with flowers, making an olfactive heaven on earth.  Each white blossom would sing its song, and overtime, slowly fade into a light, mauve color and drop from the plant.  I find something spiritual and exquisitely beautiful about this transformation from white into the violet spectrum.  Jasmine got her name from the Persian word “Yasameen” which means “gift from god”.

Tips for Wearing Natural Perfumes

Oil Based Perfumes

Esprit de la Nature liquid perfumes are infused into an odorless base of organic Jojoba oil.  Even though Jojoba is called an “oil”, chemically it is actually a wax.  Since Esprit de la Nature perfumes do not contain water, the perfumes do not expire, and can improve with age. While the volatile top notes (the aromas you smell first) will fade over time, the base and heart notes will deepen and grow more complex. Perfumes based in Jojoba do not have the “throw” or silage of alcohol-based perfumes.  They are a more intimate experience.

Solid Perfumes

In solid perfumes, floral and bees’ waxes trap the aroma molecules in the perfume.   The heat of your skin melts the waxes which release the fragrance slowly, over time, for a very intimate experience.

Tips for Wearing Natural Perfumes

While I formulate my perfumes to worn on the skin, I actually prefer them worn on the hair.  The perfume blends with the natural musk of your hair to create complexity and a fragrance that is uniquely your own.  Also, the aroma lasts longer worn in the hair.  The best way to experience a natural perfume on your body is to apply it to well-moisturized skin.  Rub the perfume into your skin as little as possible, because your skin will absorb the oils and waxes, that hold the fragrance, shortening the duration of the aroma.  Natural perfumes are not going to have the longevity or projection of synthetics.  Typically, top notes last 10-15 minutes; heart notes 30-45 minutes and base notes up to two hours or longer.

Olfactory nerve saturation.

After a few minutes of smelling the same thing intensely, our olfactory nerve turns off to sensing that smell.  This phenomenon is a survival mechanism for sensing changes in and evaluating our environment.  If you can’t smell your perfume, take a break from for 15 -30 minutes. You might not be able to smell the perfume on yourself, but others can.
